MiFi is a wireless dongle that serves as a mobile hotspot. The devices themselves are just a little wider than a mobile broadband USB dongle and are just as light and portable. Similar to a dongle they also have a mobile broadband SIM inside and work on exactly the same mobile broadband deals as a dongle.
Unlike a dongle, a single MiFi allows multiple devices to be connected to the Internet simultaneously. This means that wherever you are, you can have access to the Internet not just with one device but with multiple devices that have WiFi capabilities. This also means that other people with WiFi enabled devices can use your Internet too. In the simplest term, you become a mobile hotspot.
A MiFi device offers convenience. If there is no WiFi connection or a hotspot nearby, you simply connect to the Internet through your MiFi device. You do not have to look for WiFi hotspots just so you can check your email or get online. Furthermore, your friends and colleagues can benefit from it since you can share your Internet with them anywhere.
It also makes life easier not having a USB device sticking out of the side of your tablet or laptop, especially while travelling. And the information on the unit itself can be really useful, especially in terms of data used.
MiFi can support up to five devices without worrying about speed. This is ideal for the home, work or study where you may have a laptop, smartphone and tablet all sharing the same Internet access or a group of colleagues or students sharing Internet access to work on a project. As you have multiple users who can benefit from your data package, you can even share the costs of your package.
